Steampunk and Renaissance Costumes
After 16 years on Ebay and having a website, I opened this shop here on Etsy and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. Etsy customers are amazing. The vibe on here is so positive! I started in 2000 by sewing Renaissance dresses in my garage and selling on Ebay. Then I quickly added a few seamstresses to help me as I became unable to keep up with demand. My original seamstresses, Sandra and Alex, still sew for me to this day. I have since added a few more wonderful seamstresses and helpers. Saul, who is Sandra's husband, is a sewing marvel. Yep. One of my best seamstresses is a man. My hubby Luke makes the hitch-up chains and jewelry on the weekends. And I still sew a little, but mostly I am customer service and packaging extraordinaire.
How I began selling Steampunk:
I went to a Steampunk Photography/ Modeling Meetup and brought a few Steampunk prototypes for the models to try. The pictures turned out great and it was fun to create designs and have models and photographers make a piece of artwork with my dresses. Sandra sewed a bustle skirt one day. Seriously, she just whipped one up from a picture I drew. We tinkered with it to get it just right. That is how I started selling my Steampunk costumes three years ago. My daughter Brook models in some of the pictures. But I also use local models who love Steampunk.
Halloween is my busiest, busiest season, and various fairs keep us snipping and sewing throughout the year. I hope my story encourages you to try creating a product you love and selling it on Etsy. Thank you for your kind support and I look forward to your business.
Cheers, Suzie
